Underfloor Heating — FAQ

What is the difference between wet and electric underfloor heating?
Wet (hydronic) underfloor heating circulates warm water through pipes under the floor and connects to your boiler or heat pump. It is more efficient for whole-house heating but has a higher installation cost. Electric underfloor heating uses heating cables or mats and is easier to retrofit in bathrooms or individual rooms. We install both types.
How much does underfloor heating installation cost in London?
Electric UFH for a bathroom typically costs from £500–£1,500 including labour. Wet underfloor heating for a room or extension starts from £2,000–£4,000 depending on size, floor preparation required and complexity. We provide a free survey and fixed quote for every job.
Can underfloor heating be added to an existing property?
Yes, although it is easier in new builds and extensions. In existing properties, the main consideration is floor height — wet systems add approximately 100–150mm to the floor level. Electric systems are much thinner (2–3mm) and are popular for bathroom and kitchen retrofits.
Does underfloor heating work with my existing boiler?
Wet underfloor heating works with most modern combination boilers and heat pumps. UFH operates at lower water temperatures (35–50°C vs 70–80°C for radiators), which makes it highly compatible with condensing boilers and heat pumps. We assess your existing system during the survey.
